Non-Materialism Through Mini Computers

I noticed when I got my Mac Mini, from a completely lust and craving point of view, that somehow I ended up less materialistic, because I was able to condence my computer, alarm clock, CD player, television, DVD player and radio all into one appliance, at which point I tossed all that other shit, and since the Mac Mini only takes up a few square inches, and given that I already had a flat screen and two tiny Bose speakers, well, I could move most of my appliances in twenty minutes and fit it all into a back pack. It was a freeing feeling.

Gosh, I am sitting here with my 17" Powerbook, and lusting after a Mini with the works...
They are insanely simple and small - truly sublime.

I did get close to one once, and touched a Mac Mini at the Apple Store.
I was tempted to buy one just for the 'cute factor'.

Now that I know it comes with a 'freeing feeling' as well, I may just have to splurge for the 'non-materialistic effect'. Resistance is futile.

Steve Jobs wants to assimilate us. Customers are no good unless you get their souls. Assimilate first, then the profits come faster.

iTunes, by the way, makes a very nice radio. And funny, but the Mac Mini actually does have an extremely tiny speaker inside it. The sound escapes through the fan vents. It sounds like a tinny portable AM radio from back in the day. Anyhow, I end up listening to Sai Baba's radio station all day. While I'm not a fan of the Gurus who call themselves God, the station also features recordings of chanting all day and Hindu music, which helps me relax and keeps me from obsessing over worldly stuff too much.

Is that the same as Lamrim radio in iTunes? (Tibetan Buddhist Radio)
          Soothing. (didgeridoo resonance)
The tinny-portable-AM-radio-teenage-years-sound leads me to wonder....
Is there a way to hook up the Mini to external speakers? I will investigate.

LamRim is hot! And I'd forgotten the name and lost it when I changed computers. Thanks for reminding me. But I think this other one I'm into is called Sai Global Harmony:

But now I'm going to reenter that LamRim into my bookmarks.

I lust after the beasts of the fastest G5 powermacs. Sadly those pretty aluminum cases are HUGE. I have one at work, and now that the quad's out I'm consdering a purchase I can't afford. But what do either of those 2 things matter a bit!

Yeah, I am always amazed at the sheer bulk of the G5s. What's funny is that it was the greatest achievement IBM and Mac had together, and now they're breaking up. Jobs felt he had to go with Intel. I read all the reasonings and they pretty sound, but I forgot them all because I have a sentimental attachment to IBM. Now the G5 iMac is quite a slender little monster, heavier than it looks, but still compact.

But alas the world will change again soon. I guess OS 11 will be the advent of Intel-Mac. Adding to the confusion, there's already a version of the Unix operating system called X 11 which comes with new Macs. I actually used a word processor with this alternate OS actually already on Macs now.

In any case, the one good thing is that mac peripherals and mac interior parts might become more interchangeable with regular PC parts.

It's all very wild. When the switch happens, I'll have to wait years before I can afford it all, but I'll go along with it, since I have half my life.
