Just took my little mini into the Mac store. They're putting Bluetooth in tonight. This reminds me of several months ago when I finally, at 46 years of age, bought my first digital camera. Even though I'm good at computers, wireless things often confuse me. The menus and basic controls often are not intuitive to me like computer stuff is. I put off buying a cell phone till just two years ago. I want to go all wireless. That would be exiting to me. But then I'm not sure, because I live in a basement whether the signals will make it through the hill, through the building and into my underground bedroom. But I have to give it a try because I'm soooo curious. If my location is not good, then whoever inherits my computer when I upgrade someday, well, they'll at least have a free Bluetooth.

Sun, June 25, 2006 - 3:09 AMAh well, the airport extreme and bluetooth thing isn't working out for now. I'm too far out of range. However, word has it in six months or so we may have city-wide free wi-fi, in which case then I'm giving comcast the boot. For now though, all I can do is check every so often to see if anything's come in range and continue to pay my comcast bill. -

Sun, June 25, 2006 - 11:25 AMGet Macstumbler, it's freeware. Move the Macmini around your apartment every day or two and note where the signals are strongest from. Once you've located the place with the best signal, leave your MacMini set up there. Be aware that TVs, radios, microwaves, cellphones, even lights can cause interference with the signal. Closest to an outside window is your best bet. With Macstumbler you can also try positioning the Macmini at different angles...make sure that all the cords connected to the Macmini can move freely with good play before trying that. -

Re: Excited and Uncertain
Sun, June 25, 2006 - 1:48 PMI do have a table by an open window, so I'll have to give it a whirl. I'm very much still just learning this stuff. Plus my apartment is partly underground, so putting it near the window might help. And that area has no other appliances near it, nor other light fixtures. All of this has suddenly made me greedy for a laptop.
