Most webcam portals are 90% BS. Most of the cameras they list are no longer existent, never did work, or there was never a camera there, but simply ads that no one would pay attention to unless they used a trick to get you there. In short, most webcam portals are total frauds. And it might take me sorting through a hundred camera listing to find just a few good ones.
That all changed with Opentopia. They stand the whole thing on it's head. Now over 90% of their listing work, unknown in the webcam world. And OS X seems perfectly suited to read those cams without messing with downloads and a zillion plug ins. I'm still very impressed.

Is there a webcam you recommend, Shaku?
Are they all compatible with Macs and PCs?
One more question... Is Isight useable with PC's?

Re: Opentopia.Com
Thu, December 29, 2005 - 8:31 PMI have a cheapo webcam, but I'm not a broadcaster, only a surfer and watcher of nature cams and city street cams and such. To broadcast a cam you usually need a server. But I think opentopia should be PC friendly too. Although I have a PC at work, and I seem to get better results on the Mac, which is usually not the case. Mine is just a $50 Logitech thing from Circuit City. I wish I had a server though, so I could just simply have my room broadcasting to the world all day and night for no reason but my own egotism.
