Yeah, so I was at the Cameron in Toronto Friday evening (the SF-like bar with all the cowboy boots hanging from the ceiling...in between the giant ant or two) and there were these two punk dudes with a Pismo at the turntables supposedly spinning something. So, admiring their mac, I go up and take a look at it. Well, now wouldn't you know it, they were "spinning" off of mp3s and iTunes! Which explained why the music sucked more than usual I guess. I hope. I mean I hope they're not using iTunes over the PA system there. It may sound good in ear-buds to the uninitiated...but, really, you have to care about sound and music to be a decent dj. Really. And not depend on compressed mp3s to help the patrons enjoy their drinks. Of course, maybe that wasn't the purpose at all.
My plea? Please use uncompressed original audio files if you are going to claim to be an audiophile. Otherwise, play in bars where the best thing to do is drink and try to avoid listening to the music.

Mon, May 1, 2006 - 9:05 PMI warn people who get my MP3s that my full-size AIFF files sound way better. But a lot of folks just don't want to use the disk space and don't have the patience to wait the extra minute or two for the song to download, especially if they only half-like my music anyway and are only listening to it to make me feel good. -

Wed, June 14, 2006 - 2:54 PMI must also add that I'm now looking at getting a real stereo again, but I might be too lazy, too cheap and too pressed for space in my little 200 square foot apartment. -

Thu, June 15, 2006 - 2:58 PMLook, I'm not saying that headphones are bad; I'm saying that music spun off of MP3s and iTunes to a professional PA system sucks. Heck, I listen to MP3s on my little headphones all the time. However, if are going to call yourself a DJ, don't "spin" MP3s.
