It's so frustrating. When I go on E-Bay. The used Mac Minis,
the ones which are the same model and specs of the one I
paid $450, are still $400 after being three years old, by the
time you count shipping in to the total, and by the time the
thing finally auctions off. (To see what the real price will be,
check out the items which expire in the next couple of hours.
By then the prices, when shipping is added, are almost the
same a new mac minis.) I don't get it.

Re: Used Macs Are Not Going Down In Price
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 1:05 AMIt's called "value". And what I mean is that when Apple sold those, it's OS wasn't quite as good as it is now...and folks had less legacy software than they do know that would run on those macs...so, if you will, Apple and their developers have added value to the hardware, that, while now "used", is still valuable. Or, you could think of it as a coincidence. -

Re: Used Macs Are Not Going Down In Price
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 3:15 AMI'm confused about one thing about OS 10.5 and the new Intels: Is OS 9 still going to be workable on that, or will that be done through emulators soon? -

Re: Used Macs Are Not Going Down In Price
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 3:40 PMThere is an emulator, that I cannot remember the name of at the moment, that sort of works but it only supports OS 9.0.x and also maybe 8.6; it does not support 9.1 or 9.2 yet and may never. The official Mac emulator (Code name: Blue) is not supported by Apple in OS 10.5, nor on Intel Macs...and it will not run on either. So, maybe someone could remind us what the name of the non-Apple 9.0 emulator is called and provide a link to it?
Basically, if you still need OS 9 for series work you should stick to PowerPC Macs running OS 10.4 or earlier...another small factor that may slightly increase the value of PPC Macs to those who need to run OS 9 applications. -

Re: Used Macs Are Not Going Down In Price
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 12:55 AMThanks for that solid overview of the situation.
It totally makes sense because we are in this
kind of transitional period between these two
technologies, and that will no-doubt make things
a bit awkward for a while.
